Faith Based Inclusion Project

As a result of a three-year grant from the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities (TCDD) to educate and provide resources and tools to help inclusive efforts in Callahan, Jones, and Taylor Counties, on-line resources were compiled and a faith-based online directory developed to help persons with disabilities and their families locate places of worship.

The project was administered by the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of West Central Texas Council of Governments after having been awarded to West Central Texas Regional Foundation in 2012. Symposiums and workshops were held to educate faith based community leaders and individuals about persons with disabilities and how to promote inclusion and create a welcoming and comfortable environment in their faith communities.

As an ongoing inclusion effort, SHINE-Start Here Inclusion Network for Everyone was created by faith based and community based organizations that work with persons with disabilities, individuals with disabilities and family members of persons with disabilities. The Network is an ongoing, self-sustaining alliance in Callahan, Jones, and Taylor Counties committed to including persons with disabilities and their loved ones in faith-based and community programs and service.
