Citizen Corps Program

Under the Citizen Corps Program, two programs have been implemented: Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) and Neighborhood Watch Teams (NW).  The primary goal of CERT teams is to support first responders in the event of a disaster or emergency.

WCTCOG Regional CERT teams were utilized to assist with disaster relief duties during the wildfires in Eastland, Coke and Callahan Counties, Hurricane Katrina and Rita and the Stamford and Haskell Floods.

The Neighborhood Watch program is designed to promote community safety through citizen involvement in crime prevention activities and programs.

It is anticipated that the Citizen Corps Program will continue and will seek to establish new CERT teams and Neighborhood Watch programs, as well as continue to provide technical assistance with existing teams and programs.
